    This is the second event in our "We are the Change" series. In an effort to be the change" and serve you, we desire to listen. A panel of professional school counselors adept in race & equity work will answer ISCA community questions. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the Race & Equity Credential and the amazing benefits of participating in this life and career changing experience.

    ISCA Race and Equity Training Credential:

    Click here to access a letter to share with your administrator explaining why the Race and Equity Credential is important for you

    The ISCA Race and Equity Committee developed this credential last year and is now offering all school counselors to participate in this powerful experience! Participants must attend all 3 full day sessions to complete the Credential.

    • Dates: Friday Feb. 17th, March 3rd, March 17th, Virtual via Zoom – 15 hours of PD Credit available for participants. $100 for Graduate Students, $200 for ISCA Members and $250 for ISCA Non-Members. Participants earning the Credential are eligible to participate in the Credential Train the Trainer full day workshop in the summer of 2023. Participants completing the Train the Trainer workshop may be eligible for financial compensation to work as credential trainers on behalf of ISCA. Non-Member registration includes a full year of ISCA Membership.

    The middle school years are a formative period of time with great opportunities for growth and exploration. By capitalizing on this opportunity and investing in a path of self-discovery, we can ensure our students thrive in high school and beyond. Learn about Success Bound and the ways in which our curriculum highlights academic empowerment, post-secondary exploration, and social emotional learning. In addition, hear how Success Bound is working with school counselors to support their students as they explore their identities, passions, and interests to embark on a bold path to reach their goals.

    Participants will...

    1. Understand what Success Bound is and how our curriculum supports middle schooler
    2. Obtain a deeper understanding of why the middle school years are so crucial for the long term success of our students.
    3. Explore the Success Bound curriculum and ways in which lessons can be utilized with your school community.

    Join Dougy Center’s knowledgeable trainers to explore the fundamentals of grief education and how to support students who are grieving. In this training, participants will:

    · Learn about the core principles and tenets of grief-informed practice

    · Develop increased awareness of how the language we use around loss and grief impacts those who are grieving

    · Identify best practices and approaches to support students who are grieving

    · Explore the implications of pathologizing grief and the new diagnosis of Prolonged Grief Disorder

    This event is capped at 50 participants - Be sure to register early! Participants will recieve 6 hours of PD credit (PEL's and LPC,LCPC,LSW) for attending this event. 

    Donna L. Schuurman, EdD, FT, is the Senior Director of Advocacy & Education at Dougy Center, and previously served as Dougy Center’s Executive Director from 1991–2015. Dr. Schuurman is an internationally recognized authority on grief and bereaved children, teens, and families, and the author of Never the Same: Coming to Terms with the Death of a Parent (St. Martin’s Press, 2003), among other publications. Dr. Schuurman’s articles and other contributions have been published in scholarly journals and textbooks, and she is interviewed regularly for national and regional media. She has worked directly with families and communities impacted by large-scale tragedies and natural disasters, including as a trainer for the FBI and National Transportation Safety Board family assistance staff. She is a national trainer for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and co-authored Children, Teens, and Suicide Loss, a joint publication of AFSP and Dougy Center.

    Monique B. Mitchell, PhD, FT, is the Director of Training and Translational Research at Dougy Center. Dr. Mitchell is a nationally recognized authority on children, teens, and young adults who are grieving in foster care, and is the National Director of the L.Y.G.H.T. program. She is the author of The Neglected Transition: Building a Relational Home for Children Entering Foster Care (Oxford University Press, 2016) and Living in an Inspired World: Voices and Visions of Youth in Foster Care (Child Welfare League of America Press, 2017), among other publications. Dr. Mitchell has trained and researched extensively on grief-informed best practices for children and youth who are grieving, taught undergraduate and graduate courses on loss and grief, and developed child-centered curricula. She has worked directly with children, youth, and young adults who have been impacted by death and non-death losses in Canada, Honduras, and the United States.
