Student-athletes don’t just choose a college—they choose a program, a coach, a roster spot, and a future.  Are you equipped to guide them?

This dynamic webinar unpacks the real decision-making process behind college selection for student-athletes. From recruiting realities to balancing academics and athletics, you’ll gain the insight and tools needed to confidently support students and families in making informed, empowered decisions.

Finding the “right fit” for college is complex for any senior—but for student-athletes, the decision includes academic, social, financial, and athletic variables that significantly shape their future. This webinar equips school counselors with the knowledge and guiding principles needed to effectively support college-bound student-athletes and their families. Participants will gain insight into the recruiting landscape, decision-making pressures, and the nuanced factors that influence fit—empowering counselors to provide informed, authentic, and student-centered guidance throughout the process.

Participants will be able to:

  1. Analyze the unique decision-making process student-athletes navigate when selecting a college or university.

  2. Identify key academic, athletic, financial, and personal factors that influence a student-athlete’s college choice.

  3. Apply guiding principles that promote autonomy, informed decision-making, and developmental alignment for college-bound student-athletes.

  4. Strengthen their capacity to provide authentic, equity-centered counseling support to student-athletes and their families.

NOTE: Participants are eligible to receive one (1) ISBE-approved CE/Professional Development Hour for full attendance.  Per Illinois State Board of Education requirements, attendees must join the session on time, remain for the duration, verify attendance as directed, and complete the required evaluation in order to receive credit.
